Case Studies
SBAN supports case studies about small business anti-displacement strategies and how advocates are implementing these strategies in communities across the country and abroad. Case study authors learn from other awardees, receive consultant support from SBAN, and present their work to the network and other stakeholders at SBAN events.
Our most recent set of case studies (coming November 2025) examine community ownership efforts to create and preserve affordable space for small businesses in six cities. Community ownership is a long-term solution for preventing small business displacement, supporting neighborhood stability, and maintaining diverse local economies. It gives community members and stakeholders control of their neighborhood assets and keeps property for community benefit.
In 2026, we will publish case studies about strategies to protect small businesses from climate displacement and gentrification.
Our inaugural set of case studies in 2023, Keeping Small Businesses In Place: Voices From the Field, includes a range of anti-displacement strategies. We also produced a companion documentary film, We’re Still Here.
