SBAN Member the Purple Line Corridor Coalition Awarded $1.5 Million
SBAN got a shout-out in coverage of the Purple Line Corridor Coalition’s new $1.5 million federal grant award to do equity work along the new light rail line in the Maryland suburbs. PLCC is an SBAN member and both organizations are housed at the University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth.
“This grant will enable us to dive deep on critical challenges in equitable development that have emerged over the last two years, while putting social justice and community engagement at the forefront,” said PLCC Director Sheila Somashekhar.
The organization is also currently working on a SBAN case study about their small business anti-displacement efforts along the line and the need for new solutions to challenges such as real estate and redevelopment pressures, so that existing small businesses can reap the benefits of large-scale infrastructure investments.
