SBAN’s Knaap, Purple Line Corridor Coalition’s Equitable Development Report Featured in Washington Post
SBAN senior leader Dr. Gerrit Knaap and SBAN member organization the Purple Line Corridor Coalition (PLCC) were featured in two Washington Post stories about preserving small businesses and affordable housing along the Purple Line light rail, which is currently under construction in Washington, D.C.’s Maryland suburbs.
The paper highlights PLCC’s new report Purple Line Equitable Transit-Oriented Development Strategy and notes that property values and rents are already rising along the corridor. A Q&A feature with Knaap, who is director of University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth and founder of the PLCC, explains why PLCC has focused on gentrification years before the line begins running.
