Tool: Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Plans

The New Orleans Business Continuity Guide and NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness campaign, offer resources to help the city’s small businesses—about 40% of which are BIPOC-owned—prepare for emergencies. Targeted to the type of disasters common in Louisiana, such as hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes, and wildfires, the guide is based on feedback from small business owners who participated in workshops as part of the city’s Main Street Resilience Project. The guide outlines information and resources business owners have said they need, including tools to help small businesses assess their disaster risk and information on how to prepare for operational challenges and ensure viability after a disaster. The guide also features case studies of local small business experiences with disasters and lessons they have learned. Additionally, Louisiana’s state-level From Risk to Resiliency business guide provides NOLA small businesses with information about geographically specific hazards, mitigation strategies, and emergency resources.
