Commercial Relocation Laws – MA (statewide)
Tool : Relocation Assistance and Right-to-Return Policies
State of Massachusetts relocation laws require public agencies that displace residential and commercial tenants to assist with their relocation. Agencies must develop an individualized relocation plan for each displaced residential or commercial tenant. These plans include funding relocation costs and helping to source alternate locations for displaced tenants. While the law states that the new location for tenants must be “adequate,” it does not define what this means and does not explicitly require agencies to help tenants remain in the same neighborhood.
