Strategy in Action

The San Antonio Legacy Business Program, offered through the city’s Office of Historic Preservation, is a component of the Living Heritage Initiative, a program designed to preserve and promote the city’s cultural, social, and economic heritage. The Legacy Business Program seeks to support new development and economic growth while protecting community character and cultural heritage. To be eligible, businesses need to have been operating for 20 years or more and contribute to the history, culture, and identity of San Antonio. This includes meeting one of the following criteria: be owned by generations of the same family; provide authentic goods or services; cultivate tradition and culture; be located in a landmark or historic district; be eligible and willing to be a historic landmark. Selected businesses are added to San Antonio’s legacy businesses map and promoted by the city.
