Accessory Commercial Units – Pomona, Californnia
Tool: Accessory Commercial Units (ACUs)
Pomona, California updated their zoning and development code in July 2024 to allow accessory commercial units (ACUs) in converted garages on residential property with single-unit homes. At least one resident must be associated with the business operating in the ACU, and only one ACU is allowed on the property. The city limits ACUs to specific uses, including office space, retail, childcare, medical clinics, or small-scale food and beverage manufacturing. Noise and delivery traffic are regulated to avoid disrupting neighbors. The business space must be 600 square feet or less, and business activities cannot take place elsewhere on the property. Additionally, businesses may only serve customers from 7 a.m. to 10p.m. Pomona ACUs are also required to obtain an operating permit from the city.
